Seven-year-old Yonie is a wondernose because he can’t keep his nose out of anything and is always getting into trouble. When his parents go away overnight, he’s left as the man of the house and promised a special reward if he can keep himself and the farm out of trouble. But that night a bad storm brings trouble–the kind that not even a full-grown man could handle easily.

Crane Maiden
The story is a somewhat altered version of an old Japanese folk tale. In this telling, a man frees a crane caught in a trap and returns home to tell his wife. Soon, a young girl shows up at the childless couple’s door and says that she has lost her way. The couple takes her in and soon thinks of her as their own daughter. To repay the couple for their kindness, the girl weaves them cloth to sell, but asks that they not look while she weaves. Eventually, however, the woman’s curiosity gets the better of her and she peeks in to see how the girl makes this fine cloth, and finds something she was not expecting.
